Mid-marks approaching fast (0)

Posted 17 November, 2008 in General

On Wednesday, December 3rd, mid-marks will be posted by all teachers here at the middle school.  With next week being Thanksgiving and only a 2 1/2 day week, December 3rd is the following Wednesday.  I realize 1st marking period report cards just came home and we just had conferences, but with this marking period including 2 holiday breaks, it can slip by or fly by pretty quickly.

Please continue to check your child’s core teachers blog sites as they update them weekly and in some cases daily with the weeks assignments, quizzes/tests and project information.  Do not hesitate to contact me if you should have questions regarding any of your child’s assignments.

Reports cards were handed out today to your child during 1st hour. So it should be arriving home this evening with your child.  If the report card does not, you can always go on Parent Internet Viewer (a link is on the right side of my blog under “links”) and check the final status of your child’s 1st marking period grades.

Math Quarterly Exam on Tuesday; Science Test on Wednesday & Parent/Teacher Conferences (0)

Posted 3 November, 2008 in General

On Tuesday, Nov. 4th  your child will be taking their quarterly math exam.  The teachers have been reviewing with the students to get them as prepared as possible.

Your child has a science test on Wednesday, Nov. 5th over Physical and Chemical Changes.  They received a study guide today in science class to help them prepare for their test.

Just a reminder that Parent/Teacher conferences are this week.  Wednesday, Nov. 5th 4 - 7 p.m. and Thursday, Nov. 6th 12 - 3 p.m. and 5 - 8 p.m.  They are student-led conferences and your child needs to attend the conference with you to make the conference as beneficial as possible.

7th Grade SS Temple Project & Science Poster (0)

Posted 17 October, 2008 in General

Your child was assigned a temple project this week in Mr. Moran’s SS class.  They have research time during class on the computers, encyclopedias, etc.  I’ve added a BLOGROLL to my list that will help you and your child with this assignment if you are working on it at home.  They can access websites that have already been collected for them by clicking on Mrs. Veurink (media specialist) link.  Then once to her BLOG site at the top under “pages” click on 7th grade social studies.  Please let me know if you have difficulty accessing the necessary information.

They have also been assigned a poster in science this week.  It is the Solid, Liquid, Gas poster.  Your child was given directions on Wednesday, 10/15, which also included a rubric for grading it on the back.  They also received the paper to complete this assignment on.  This assignment is due on Friday, 10/24.  Again, please let me know if you have difficulty with this assignment.

There will be a science quiz on Wednesday, 10/22 over Solid, Liquid and Gases.  Your child should review their flashcards, worksheets and the poster they are working on will also help with this quiz.

Low Overall Grades in Core Classes Comments Off

Posted 19 September, 2008 in General

Just a reminder that it is still early in the school year and if your child scores poorly on even one assignment or is late/missing one assignment, that can have quite a negative impact on your child’s overall grades.

I encourage you to check your child’s teacher blog often for updated assignments.  Many of the teachers even place a link on their blog to download the directions, rubric, etc that was handed out in class.  The teacher blog is a wonderful resource to use if your child is home ill from school so as not to fall too far behind in their classes.

As always, please contact me if you have any questions.

Please be sure to check your child’s teacher blogs for updates on assignments and class discussion topics.  You can use the BLOGROLL links I’ve included at the side of my blog to go back and forth between teachers.

For example Mrs. Prentice and Mrs. Sylvester have assigned a paragraph that is due on Monday, September 8th.  The topic is “messy locker”  Your child is to describe a messy locker.  It can be their own or one they have seen.  They can feel free to embellish.  They need a topic sentence, 5 “show” details and a closing sentice.  (7 sentences total)  This is a “show vs tell” type of writing assignment.  Through using detail they should be able to describe what the locker looked like.  (the peanut butter sandwich that has grown legs and hair because it is so old or the rats that are playing volleyball with the missing math assignment)  Have fun and be descriptive.

Also, a friendly reminder that your child needs a 3-ring binder for each core class (English, math, science, social studies).   I have a few extras in my office so if your child is in need of one please tell them to let me know.

It is the first day of the second semester.  Your child was given a copy of their new schedule on Friday, 1/18, hopefully you have seen it.  If you have not, you can view their schedule through Parent Internet Viewer

This is also a good time of your to purchase new 3 ring binders for your child’s core academic classes. Some of these binders are very worn out.

Feel free to contact me through email if you should have any questions.
