HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!

We made it!! Congratulations students on making it to our holiday break! You all deserve some time off….so relax and take it easy.

TREE MERCHANDISE: Singing Tree DVD’s, Pictures and CD’s that were pre-ordered will be passed out today in class. We do not have extra DVD’s (you can contact Kevin Burgam directly if you would still like one) nor do we have extra pictures.

All pre-orders that had requested (and paid for) to be mailed will be sent out tomorrow as well.

We do have extra CD’s (they turned out very nice!). They are $15 each and can be purchased in class on Friday if you did not pre-order one.

You can also stop in anytime tomorrow and pick yours up. The most convenient time would be between 1:30pm and 3:00pm.

NEW, TREE HATS!! IF YOU ORDERED A HAT AND DID NOT RECEIVE IT, PLEASE CALL JILL WHITE AT 855-0136. SHE TOOK A COUPLE OF ORDERS BUT MISPLACED THEM AND SHE CAN’T REMEMBER WHO PLACED THE ORDERS!!!

As usual, we began the day with a series of warm-ups followed by a sight-singing exercise. We have 21 different days of warm-ups (4 different warm-ups each day) and each of the choirs is singing from a different level of difficulty sight reading book.

On Thursday, in Treble Choir, we continued voice testing/placing voices for our next concert. In the afternoon (3rd and 4th hours) I was out with the Chamber Choir giving two concerts. These classes watched the musical, “Hairspray.”

NEW MUSIC LISTENING AVAILABLE HERE ON THE BLOG:

All the music for our next concert, “…Of Earthly Things” can now be heard here at the blog. Click the first link under “Blogroll” on the right of this blog to check it out! This is going to be a very exciting event

The concert is scheduled for Sunday, March 9th at 7:30pm. It will be held at the Frauenthal Center for Performing Arts in downtown Muskegon. We are combining forces with the middle school choir for this event. There will be nearly 500 Mona Shores singers on stage!!

We are bringing in a guest conductor/composer, Jeffery Cobb to work with our students and conduct some of the concert. To read more about Mr. Cobb, follow the link under “Blogroll.” He will work with the students much of that day on March 9th before the concert. Mr. Cobb is also composing a new piece which we will premier at this concert.

CAROLING GATHERING CANCELED: Due to hectic holiday schedules, overworked singers and directors (from Tree Week, Allegros, Euphonics, etc…!) as well as a general lack of interest among some of the choirs, the caroling gathering on Friday has been canceled. Individuals with a strong desire to carry on and carol may plan their own outing!

SINGING CHRISTMAS TREE: We did it again! Tree 2007 went off without a hitch and the buzz around town is that this year’s show was one of the best ever!

Thank you volunteers for all your time and talents, for without you, this show simply would not happen. You are appreciated.

And students, you have proven again the level of professionalism that is possible by young people. You entertained us with your voices, as well as your faces. Your singing was from the soul as well as being of QUALITY!! You have upheld the high standards for which our choir is well known—no easy task! Awesome job people.

The EUPHONICS ARE IN THE HOUSE: THE EUPHONICS (A 15 MEMBER, ACAPPELLA COLLEGE GROUP FROM ALBION COLLEGE THAT INCLUDE ALUMNI ANNIE GAWKOWSKI!) ARE HERE TODAY, ALL DAY, FOR SINGING AND WORKSHOPS AND WILL HANG OUT WITH EACH CHOIR. THEY WILL ALSO GIVE A CONCERT IN OUR AUDITORIUM AT 7:30PM MONDAY NIGHT. COST $5. THEY TAKE CURRENT AND POP STYLE MUSIC AND TURN THE SONGS INTO ACAPPELLA SONGS AND USE VOCAL PERCUSSION AS WELL. IT’S A STYLE THAT IS REALLY CATCHING ON WITH HS AND COLLEGE PEOPLE ALL OVER THE WORLD! COME AND HEAR THEM ON MONDAY!!!

As usual, we began the day with a series of warm-ups followed by a sight-singing exercise. We have 21 different days of warm-ups (4 different warm-ups each day) and each of the choirs is singing from a different level of difficulty sight reading book.
