March Is Reading Month
March Is Reading Month has arrived! This year our theme is Book Camp!!! We are so excited to be reading and learning about heroes this month. If any of you know or are a hero, please let me know so we can share your story with our students!
Book Camp information is being sent home on March 1st. Look for the info sheet, the calendar on the back, and the family book to read! The One School One Book for 2 – 5 graders is Dog Heroes. This is a Fact Track Magic Tree House book full of great stories about amazing dogs! I’m sure your family will enjoy reading it together.
Each student has a dog tag and will add a bead to it for each hour of reading done during the month. Attached to the info sheet is a sheet of dog tag coupons. For each hour of reading your child does, send in one of the dog tag slips signed by an adult. On Fridays, each student will get to travel to classrooms around the school to add a special bead for each hour of reading done during that week. The reading done can be with you or independently.
In class we will be reading the true story of Nubs, a special hero dog adopted by one or our US service men. Check out this link to learn more about Nubs!
Great Learning Goin On!
March Is Reading Month is almost here! We have been learning so much already this year: Multi-digit multiplication, long division, equivalent fractions, reading long and strong, thinking and writing about our reading (and much more)! We will continue to push our thinking and challenge ourselves as we finish up our year together. Keep practicing math at home and Read, Read, Read! Hugs, Mrs. McM
October/November News!
We had a fantastic trip to Lansing on 10/25! The weather was so beautiful that we were able to eat outside! It was a “fun and fact filled” day. We will be having a quiz on things we learned at the Capitol Building on Monday, 11/5. Look for your child’s Capitol Origami project in his/her Friday folder to study with. We had some great narrative writing pieces about our trip. It seems the best part of our trip was our visit to Impressions 5 Science Museum! Cool! Amazing! Fantastic! I think making the slime won for the top hands on activity!
I am attaching the November issue of the Ross Park newsletter as it covers many important items.

Halloween!!!
We had a spooktacular Halloween day! This is a list of some of the fun things we got to experience: Halloween reader’s theater, bingo, Super Sailor Celebration, wrapping Mrs. McMahon as a mummy, costumes, parade, and yummy treats! Thank you to all the families that contributed to our party and day! You made it a wonderful day for all of us!
Lansing Trip on Thursday 10/25/12
Get ready for an amazing day in Lansing! Students and chaperons need to be at school in the classroom by 6:35 Thursday morning. We will be leaving at 6:45 and returning around 5:30. Students and adults need to bring a sack lunch, drink, and two snacks. The weather forecast looks terrific, sunny and 75! Please dress accordingly, layers work well. We will also need to do some walking! If you have any questions, please call me as soon as possible. Lansing, here we come!
Movin On Up to Fourth Grade!
I am so excited to have moved from third grade to fourth grade with my students! It has been an amazing experience to return to a new school year with the wonderful students I had the privilege to teach last year. I am awed by the growth all you have made since last year at this time. Be proud of yourselves! As you already know, we are continuing to focus on our reading goals as we find and read new amazing literature. Already, all of you have found many exciting new books and shared them with others. Remember, ”The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you’ll go.” ~~ Dr. Seuss
I would also like to congratulate all of you on completing your 4th grade MEAP! It was a tense couple of weeks and you all handled it very well. You are Super Sailor MEAPsters!
Get ready for our Lansing trip this coming Thursday, October 25. We will be meeting at school in the classroom at 6:30AM. Bring a lunch with a drink and two snacks. Check the weather and dress appropriately as there will be some walking involved between the Capitol building and the History Museum. We are planning on returning to the school by 5:30PM. It will be a fun filled exciting day!
Please continue to practice multiplication and division facts through 12 for mastery! This is very important because knowing them will help you learn higher math. Practice working with fractions: comparing frations, (greater than, less than, or equal to), placing fractions on a number line, and adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominators. It would also be a good idea to review place value, (standard, short word, word, and expanded form), and adding and subtracting large numbers.
We will be learning more about the “shocking” subject of Electricity in the coming weeks. Get ready to be “electrified” at the Science Museum we will be visiting in Lansing on Thursday!
Go Tigers! Go Lions! Go Steelers!
Happy Halloween!
