Just a reminder that this week will be a short week.  We will have a full day of school (8:20-3:30) on Monday and Tuesday.  Then on Wednesday, students will be dismissed at 11:45 and there will be no school on Thursday and Friday due to the Thanksgiving holiday.  Enjoy the time with your family and friends and have a wonderful holiday!

Today, we will be starting our new Language Arts unit, Better Together.  We will have four weeks of stories, and then a review week.  The stories in this unit are “The Mysterious Tadpole,” “The Goat in the Rug,” “Henry’s Wrong Turn!,” and “Swimmy.”  With each story, there are 8 vocabulary words that the students will be tested on at the end of each week.  Please click here for a list of the vocabulary words and their definitions that go along with our new unit.

Thank you to all parents that came to conferences last week.  It was nice to be able to see and talk to all those who came about how their child is doing in 2nd grade.  Thanks again!

Just a reminder that starting Monday, November 17 there will no longer be early dismissal at 2:00 until after Winter break.  Students will be in school on Monday’s until 3:30.

Thank you to all parents who helped with the Halloween party.  It was a huge success, and the kids had a lot of fun.  Thanks again!

Here is the agenda for our Halloween activities on Friday, October 31st.  Second grade students will be going out for recess from 1:15-1:45.  When we come back in, students will have a chance to get their costumes on.  (Please do not wear costumes to school.)  While they wait for their turn, we will be doing various activities in the classroom.  The Halloween parade is at 2:40 this year.  After the parade, we will come back in for snacks and a Halloween movie.

Please send a pumpkin in to school with your child by Wednesday, October 29th.  The pumpkins should be small enough to fit in the palm of your childs hand.  We will be using these pumpkins during our Halloween party on Friday.  Thanks!

On Monday, we will be starting our new Language Arts unit, Eureka.  We will have four weeks of stories, and then a review week.  The stories in this unit are “The Sun is Always Shining,” “Willie’s Not the Hugging Kind,” “Nine-in-One, Grr!  Grr!,” and “The Wednesday Surprise.”  With each story, there are 8 vocabulary words that the students will be tested on at the end of each week.  Please click here for a list of the vocabulary words and their definitions.
